DGT appointments: check the procedure's channel first

Different procedures can require different visits. Read the official procedure page to find out whether a digital route exists, whether you need to attend an office and whether you must prove authority to represent someone else. DGT offers appointment booking through its electronic headquarters and 060. Booking is free; your operator may charge for the call.

Booking an appointment does not submit your application or establish that your file is complete. Before booking, identify the exact procedure and its required documents. This guide does not offer appointment availability, priority or access to calendars outside official channels.

How to book a DGT appointment: five preparation steps

  1. Open the official procedure page, rather than starting with an advert promising an immediate appointment.
  2. Confirm whether you need in-person attention or can use another route.
  3. Choose the appropriate office and type of appointment.
  4. Check who will attend and how they must prove identity or representation.
  5. Save the appointment details and prepare the documents before travelling.

If you cannot attend, use the appointment-management options provided by that channel. Before booking another appointment, check what happens to your existing one. Avoid sharing codes or personal documents outside the official headquarters or the necessary channel.

Aged 65 or over: a limited walk-in exception

The official appointment page provides for people aged 65 or over to attend without an appointment for their own procedures during the specified office hours, subject to exceptions. This does not mean that any older person can carry out any procedure without booking.

Check the stated limits: representing another person or handling company business does not qualify as carrying out your own procedure under this exception. Exchanges of licences from countries with an agreement are excluded from this in-person walk-in provision. Read the current page before travelling, even if you think an exception applies.

Representation: booking and submitting are separate

Record who is applying, who will attend and whose procedure it is. If you act for another person, check how to prove representation for that procedure. Holding a copy of their identity document or knowing their name does not itself establish authority to act.

Example: Pablo helps his mother with a procedure and intends to attend the office on her behalf. He should not assume that her age allows him to use walk-in attention as her representative. He checks the representation route and books the appropriate appointment.

Digital routes and licence exchanges

The digital licence exchange service described by DGT starts online and requires a final visit to hand in the original and collect the provisional document under its instructions. You do not need to book an appointment to start that digital route. This does not make all exchanges, countries and circumstances follow the same process.

If you are looking for an exchange appointment, first open the page for your country and category. Both “all exchanges require an appointment” and “no exchange requires a visit” leave out differences that matter when preparing your application.

Checklist for the appointment day

  • Office, date, time and procedure confirmed.
  • Complete documentation from the official procedure page.
  • Identity and representation evidence, where applicable.
  • Receipts or references required for the procedure.
  • Specific questions about outstanding details or documents.

Common mistakes

Confusing the cost of a call with the price of an appointment, paying for supposed official priority or attending with documents for another procedure are avoidable problems. A private provider can assist with a particular service; it cannot guarantee slots in the DGT calendar. For an ownership transfer, check the available channel and scope before deciding that you need a visit.
